Let's talk licensing!

We now offer three different types of authorization across five different devices!
No other competitor comes close to the flexibility we offer  now!
Every option below has advantages and disadvantages so read everything closely before you choose which option is best for you!
NOTE: All options below require the CodeMeter Runtime installed.  This is what  makes it possible for us to lock to any USB device now.
Feel free to email us any questions if you are still confused which route to choose....8)

IMPORTANT!!  If you are a multi-user facility, then only option #1 is your only option.  USB Device, iLok and System Binding are for single users only.

Option #1: CodeMeter CmStick USB dongles OR PropellerHead's Ignition Key
This is the option we have primary used and sold since version 2.x and we still prefer it for many reasons.
A Propellerhead Software Ignition Key is a CmStick in disguise, so we can add our licenses to these also no problem!
Just choose the CmStick option on checkout!   8)

Who is this for?

  • Facilities needing multiple licenses and maximum flexibly.
  • Single users that like to be as flexible and mobile as possible.
  • Anyone that already owns and uses a CodeMeter CmStick

Pros:

  • Supports Floating Network Licenses that work over LAN or WAN.
Example: You can put 20 licenses on a single dongle and hang it on a centralized server and up to 20 licenses can then be accessed from anywhere in the facility or thru the web.
  • Allows single users to be more mobile since you can take the dongle with you an use on any PC or Mac.
  • Easier license management and easiest future license upgrades.
  • Cross-Platform License.
  • It's shiny and metal chrome and built like a tank!
  • Works on Raspberry Pi devices also that allows you to set up a super cheap always ON license server.

Cons:

  • Need to buy a CmStick if you don't already have one, but we sell them on our site or you can buy one direct from CodeMeter in Germany.  (Best for people living in Europe to save money on shipping)

If you choose this option with a CmStick Combo the Licenses will already be on the CmStick when it arrives in the mail.

Option #2: USB Device Hardware Locking (USB Flash Drives or iLok2 or iLok3) (using the CodeMeter runtime)
Now you can lock to removable USB Devices. (This includes iLok's also , but not in the traditional way)
We use the CodeMeter runtime to bind to any USB device's serial number and we make a custom plugin or license with your serial number embedded to make it all work.
So in a few simple steps, BaseHead will be locked to one of these removable devices so you can be mobile.
NOTE: for Facilities of 3 or more users we will not allow this type of authorization.  Please choose the first option on this page!

Who is this for?
People that already have an iLok or USB flash drive on their system and don't want to use another USB port for a CodeMeter CmStick, but still need to be mobile.

(Note: iLok version 1's are NOT supported with this method.  You'll need an iLok2 or iLok 3)

Pros:

  • Let's you use your iLok or USB flash drive you might be using for Waves plugins already plugged in your system and not have to use another USB port.
  • Allows single users to be more mobile since you can take the dongle with you an use on any PC or Mac.
  • Cross-Platform License.

Cons:

  • NOT recommended for multi-user facilities at all.  Please order a CmStick for this case.   8)
  • Doesn't work over LAN or WAN network like a CmStick, so it's NOT recommended for facilities.
  • Doesn't support multiple floating licenses on a single dongle like a CmStick does.

FAQ:

What if I loose my USB Device or iLok I binded my license to or it gets damaged?
You can can get new licenses issued  at $15 per platform for the new iLok or USB Device
Unfortunately, we get charged a fee each time we write a license so we have go charge something.

Option #3: Dongle-Less  (Locking to your PC or Mac's system drive or CPU)
Yes, we've listened and we know many of you just plain hate dongles.
We do also to be honest, but they are a necessary evil in most cases and allow you to be more mobile if you work around town at different places.
Many of you don't need this so now you can finally "Ditch the Dongle!!"

NOTE: for Facilities of 3 or more users we will NOT allow this type of authorization anymore.
Please choose the first option on this page!

Who is this for?
People that hate dongles and work in one location, on one computer and don't plan to ever work anywhere else.

Pros:

  • Doesn't use a USB port
  • Saves you money by not having to buy a CMStick dongle and pay for shipping.

Cons:

  • NOT recommended for multi-user facilities at all.  Please order a CmStick for this case.  8)
  • The license can only be used on one machine at a time so you need to choose between PC or Mac at purchase time.
  • You are not mobile at all unless locking to a laptop.
  • Transfer or ownership not allowed.
  • Switching to new machine is NOT instantaneous cuz you need to contact BH Support and wait for a response.

FAQ:

What if I chose to bind to my System Drive and had to reformat my PC or Mac?
You can bind to 3 different USB devices or System Drives, but of course 'only one at a time' per license purchased..
So after your initial binding you get two more moves in case you loose the USB device, it breaks or it gets stolen or you had to reformat your System Drive.
After you run out you can buy another 3 pack of Licenses for just $25.  We get charged for each License we write so we have to charge something unfortunately. Most likely before you run out transfers a new version of BH will probably be available you'd want to upgrade to anyway giving you a renewed 3 pack...8)

FYI: version 5.x for PC now binds to the CPU serial number instead now, so if you re-format the same activation file will work it re-applied after a re-format or new Windows install.

How do I move System bound licenses from one rig to another?
send a new License Request from the new machine and tell us it's a Replacement license and you are moving systems.  After we receive it we will issue a new license and kill off your one.  This process can take up to 48 hours depending on your location cuz of time differences and a human needs to do it.  If you are someone that needs to jump around a lot please choose a dongle bound solution above.
